LEAD VPK TEACHER

The general requirements for the Lead VPK Teacher position are:

   •      Holds a current VPK teaching certificate

   •      Bachelors Degree in Early Childhood Education

   •      2 years working in a preschool as a teacher

   •      Bilingual in English & Spanish

  

Summary of position

Construct a variety of learning activities in the VPK curriculum that provide opportunities for students to achieve learning objectives. To collaborate professionally with other teachers and staff to promote the general well-being of the school, including the staff and student body and their families.

 

Responsibilities

Classroom Environment:

•   Fully implement the VPK curriculum in the classroom, utilizing circle time, the art, science, house and manipulative centers.

•   Provides weekly, age appropriate, lesson plans for review and ensures that assignments and necessary materials are prepared before the beginning of each activity; modifies lesson plans and schedules as required.

•   Assesses developmental needs of children and activities that encourage children to develop social skills, problem-solving skills and new ways of thinking.

•   Monitors students appropriately to ensure a safe and healthy environment, both indoors and outdoors, following all rules and procedures of the school and company as well as state licensing standards.

•   Maintains accurate attendance reports.

•   Communicates frequently and respectfully with children directly, in child-friendly tones and on their level, including getting down on the floor with children during certain activities, holding or picking up children when needed, being able to help children during naptime and supporting the children’s efforts.

•   Ensures rules and limits are established according to Conscious Discipline philosophy and standards; uses consistency in discipline.

 

Parents and Staff Interactions:

•   Meets and greets children each day in a warm and friendly tone upon arrival and departure.

•   Presents a favorable image of the school to parents, children, staff and visitors by exhibiting a friendly, caring and warm attitude at all times.

•   Supervises PreK Staff.

 

 

Professionalism:

•   Maintains a cooperative attitude in dealing with other staff and parents always presenting a high level of respect in tone and manner. Works to resolve conflicts quickly.

•   Follows all school and company policies and procedures, including but not limited to, dress code, assigned work schedule, reliability, dependability, and punctuality.

•   Demonstrates flexibility and willingness to learn and adopt new ideas in early learning and development; works to continually learn and improve skills.

•   Maintains confidentiality regarding staff, children and families as well as management and operations.

•   Performs all other duties as assigned.

 

Experience & Credentials:

•   Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.

•   Meets minimum preparation and experience required for certification as an Early Childhood Education Teacher., including VKP certification. Complies with all state education and licensing standards, and maintains validation of credentials for the position (i.e. professional development).

•   Previous experience as an Early Childhood Education Teacher, in a licensed preschool.

•   Strong organizational skills.

 

Bilingual in English/Spanish is strongly preferred.
